Venturing Outside During COVID-19

We love the outdoors for its unique ability to reduce stress and anxiety. But as people seeking refuge in nature have flooded into parks, beaches, and other outdoor spaces, it's created more harm. So what are we to do? Recommendations from experts are clear.

Avoid any crowds and keep the adventure as small and hyper-local as possible. Now is the time to visit a neighborhood park or explore a new wild part of your town.

When people go farther afield, they increase risk for park employees, gateway communities, and the small, remote towns adjacent to parks. In addition to more risk from an influx of people, these communities lack easy access to health services and resources.

When going out to nearby and neighborhood nature, venture out only with people in your immediate household and maintain the 6-feet-apart rule. If it is too crowded or trails are too narrow, choose another place for your outdoor recreation.

Don't use public amenities that others would touch, and bring soap and hand sanitizer just in case. (Excerpted from Sierra Magazine)
