Special Events and Celebrations

The International Program hosts numerous special events and activities for international students throughout the year, including our International Festival, a Lunar New Year celebration, campus visits by international alumni and a badminton program.

International Festival

St. Stephen's biennial International Festival celebrates the international diversity of students at our school. During the festival, students visit booths with arts and crafts, attend performances by dancers and musicians and sample a variety of international food from around the globe.

Chinese Lunar New Year

For many years, St. Stephen’s boarding students have participated in a community service project to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year. Students volunteer their time at the Asian American Cultural Center in Austin to welcome and celebrate the arrival of the Chinese New Year. Students assist with Asian Cultural Dances, Music, Martial Arts Performances, Lion Dance, Calligraphy, Traditional New Year Foods and Children's Activities.

International Alumni Visits

In April 2019, St. Stephen’s welcomed alumnus Yosua Husodo ’12 back to The Hill to share his insights and experiences as a sustainability steward. He spoke with members of the school community about the urgent need for increased environmental awareness. Husodo, who earned a B.A in environmental studies at Eckerd College after graduating from St. Stephen’s, currently is working on a master’s degree in sustainability management at the Institute for Management and Innovation at the University of Toronto-Mississauga. Born and raised in Indonesia, Husodo and his two sisters, Monica and Karina, all graduated from St. Stephen’s.

Moon Festival

To celebrate the mid-autumn Moon Festival, students in St. Stephen's Chinese language classes work in the school's makerspace to create 3-D moon cakes under the guidance of Education Technology Coordinator Nicole Wortham.
