MS Invention Convention Project Winners

Every year in mid-December Middle School science teacher Kindy Verderber sponsors the Invention Convention. This fun and creative program was designed to encourage her sixth grade students to apply basic science skills in a creative and productive manner. Students spent six weeks designing, building and testing their inventions. They were directed to use problem-solving and creative-thinking skills to invent a solution to a specific scientific problem. This project fosters the development of important research and communication skills, and it gives students an opportunity to work independently as they invent a new product or process.

This year's program was held Dec. 14 and 15 in the Middle School gym. The inventions were judged by Mrs. Danielle Horton's Upper School engineering students, as well as Mr. John Lay and Mr. Rick Pearson. Judges rated the inventions on a variety of factors, including how well the invention addresses a problem, how thoroughly the invention was researched, and how well the invention was designed and constructed.

This year's winning projects included:

Best Environmental Invention: Mosquito Rid by Asher Fore

Best Fun and Leisure Invention: Piano Paws by Solange Barbier

Most Practical and Useful Invention: The Thermic Helmet by Souna Soubra
