Spartan Athletes of the Week: Gabi and Beltre Curtis

Congratulations to St. Stephen’s Varsity Track sprinters (and siblings!)  Gabi Curtis ’26 and Beltre Curtis ’24 for earning Spartan Athlete of the Week honors!

Gabi Curtis etched her name in the Spartan history books by shattering the school record in the 100-meter dash, with a time of 12.43 seconds at the Nick Finnegan Invitational at St. John’s School in Houston over the weekend. This achievement adds to her already impressive resume of school records, which now includes the long jump, 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400-meter relays. At the same meet, she also ran the 200-meter dash in 25.52 seconds, and secured a second place finish in both the 100 and 200-meter races.

Her versatility was also on display as she clinched a fifth-place finish in the long jump and played a pivotal role as the anchor for the 4x100-relay team, which secured second place.

“Gabi's consistent excellence underscores her as a standout athlete,” said Varsity Track and Field Coach Greg Cook. “She sets a high bar for herself and is leaving her mark on the school's track and field program.”

Gabi’s brother, Beltre Curtis, also gave a stellar performance at the same track meet in the 400-meter race.. Beltre crossed the finish line with a time of 49.96 seconds, achieving a significant milestone by breaking the 50-second barrier for the first time in his career. Curtis's strongest finish ever is a testament to his hard work and continued growth on the track team.

Varsity Track and Field Coach Greg Cook noted, “Beltre did a great job this weekend. Breaking the 50 second barrier is no easy feat, and this accomplishment is great for the team as we head into the SPC meet. Beltre is an asset to the boys team and I look forward to seeing him finish his St. Stephen’s track career strongly.”
