Spartan Scoreboard: March 25-29

The Spartan Baseball team came out victorious during their game vs. New Braunfels Thunder High School Baseball. The offense tallied a total of 14 hits and scored nine total runs. The pitching staff held their opponents to three runs, which led to a final score of 9-3.

Head Coach Steven Elder expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance. “I'm pleased with how the team played today,” he said. “They showed determination and executed our game plan really well.”

Last week, the Spartan Golf team competed in a tournament at Grey Rock Golf Club in Austin with 11 schools from the Austin and San Antonio areas. It was the first tournament with the full boys’ squad. Despite the rain at the start of the day, the team put together a solid showing and finished tied for 4th, only two strokes off of 3rd place. The Spartans were led by Charlie Hubbard ’25 who shot a 4-under-par 68 and finished 2nd overall. 

The girls’ were one player short of competing as a team, but individually Claire Wan ’25 and Audrey Wan ’25 held their own. Audrey finished in 7th place and Claire finished in 3rd, shooting a one-over-par 73, just two shots back from the winner. The girls are looking forward to competing as a full team for the first time later this month.

Boys’ Lacrosse had some entertaining games last week. The Spartans took a tough loss at Gateway College Prep School in Georgetown and then rebounded with a nice win over Liberty Hill High School. The team continues to improve and get better as they approach the end of the season. The defense, with John Wells ’26 as the anchor, is leading the team with an organized effort. The offense, led by Will Walters ’26 and Fin O’Connell ’24 are playing faster every week and working on how to play without Luke Mabley ’26, who is out for a few more weeks. This week, the team has two tough road matchups with Bowie High School at House Park and Greenhill School in Dallas.

On Thursday night last week, our boys’ and girls’ Tennis teams took on Regents School of Austin. Altogether the Spartans did well, only dropping a single match against the Knights. Our number one girls’ doubles team, Sophia Fan ’24 and Leela Weisser ’25 had a battle. They handled business to take it 9-7. In singles our girls had no trouble at all, dropping only a few games over all three matches. “I barely had time to blink before Emma was shaking hands with her opponent after her 8-0 win at line two,” said Head Tennis Coach Jason Haugen.

On the boys side in both singles and doubles the Spartans took care of business, winning every match. Kieran Desireddi ’25 played line one and was winning handily, but suffered an unfortunate injury mid-match and selflessly decided to give his teammates a chance to step in for him. Pranav Kandhaadai ’26, fresh off his win at line one doubles with Daniel Zhuo ’26, was the man for the job and took home a second win for the day.

The St. Stephen's Track and Field squad had a great weekend competing at the 96th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with some of the best high schools in the state of Texas. The girls’ relay team made up of Elle Middleton ’24, Tristan Lovell ’25, Kennedy Lartigue ’27 and Gabriella Curtis ’26 broke the two school records they set earlier this year in the 4x400 relay and the 4x100 relay.. Both relay teams are currently ranked No. 1 in the SPC 3A Division for both relays.

 

Head Track and Field Coach Sandra Patrick was delighted with the team’s performance over the weekend. “Congratulations to all the athletes and support staff for their hard work,” she said. “There was so much team support this past weekend and I am excited for what’s to come for this team.”
