Spartan Athletes of the Week: Phoebe George and Chris Tapia

Congratulations to Varsity Soccer players Phoebe George ’24 and Chris Tapia ’24 for earning Spartan Athlete of the Week honors!

Phoebe George doesn't always get the individual recognition she deserves because of her consistency and standard of excellence. Her performance and play at the highest level is what her team and coaches expect from her every single time she steps on the field. Her leadership over the past few weeks has been incredible. The Varsity Soccer team has had a lot of rotation within the squad because of injuries, and yet the defense has not conceded a single goal in our last five Southwest Preparatory Conference games, largely because of George’s tremendous play at center back. She has also made significant contributions on the attacking end, chipping in with five goals.

“Phoebe can do it all,” remarked Varsity Girls Soccer Head Coach Andy Aceves. “She is, in my opinion, one of the very best players in the conference, and I am thrilled that she is getting this recognition.”

Senior Captain Chris Tapia has been the backbone for the Boys Varsity Soccer team this season. He played a pivotal role in guiding the squad to a 2-1 victory on Senior Night this past Friday. Tapia's game-winning goal and assist highlights his impact on the game.

“It is always great seeing senior players step up and make a difference in crucial moments,” commented Varsity Boys Soccer Head Coach Andy Lopez. “With a few games left in our season, I want to highlight Tapia's leadership. He has consistently demonstrated an ability to inspire and guide the team."
