Former Longhorn Great Joins St. Stephen’s After Extensive Pro Career

Former Longhorn volleyball great Juliann (Faucette) Johnson has been hired by St Stephen's Episcopal School to serve as program manager for girls’ volleyball and head varsity coach, sports information director, and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) team lead. She will begin coaching at the coeducational boarding and day school in August.

During her time at The University of Texas, Johnson was a three-time All American and 2010 Big 12 Player of the Year. She was inducted into the Hall of Honor and stands out as one of the greatest volleyball players to come through the Texas program. Following high school, she was the No. 2 recruit in the nation. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communications in 2011.

Throughout the past 10 years, Johnson has traveled the world playing professional volleyball in Italy, China, France and Japan. She also played for the USA National Team under Karch Kiraly and participated in several international tournaments. Off the court, Johnson is an established singer-songwriter who released the album “Complete” in 2017.

“I’m truly honored to have been given this position at such a prestigious school in Austin,” Johnson said of joining the St. Stephen’s coaching staff. “I have always wanted to get back to where my career all started.

“What I’m most looking forward to is being on the DEI leadership team,” she added. “I’m very passionate about social justice and equal rights for all. It’s something we discuss every day in my own home and something I’m excited about working on at St. Stephen’s. The school’s commitment to equity and inclusion was a huge draw for me.”

UT Head Volleyball Coach Jerritt Elliot is excited that Johnson is returning to Austin. “This is a home-run hire by St. Stephen’s,” Elliot noted. “Juliann has always played with passion and been a great leader. She has played at the collegiate and professional levels and with our national team at the highest level. She now brings her leadership, drive and experience to the next generation of volleyball players. She will be an excellent role model for these young players.”

St. Stephen’s Athletic Director Jon McCain agreed with Elliot’s assessment. “Juliann obviously has the volleyball background required to teach the game and lead a program, but it is her individual character that I am so excited about,” McCain noted. “She is passionate about our core values as a school and will make an immediate impact on our overall athletic program.”
