Mikey Lopez
Soccer Academy Coach
Mikey Lopez is back home, joining us again during the professional off-season.
Mikey was a boarding lifer at SSES and was a part of the Soccer Academy. After graduating in 2011, he went on to play at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was named ACC Freshman of the Year, ACC All-Freshman Team, and an All-American. He was also a 2x ACC regular season champion, ACC champion, and 2011 National Champion. After his two seasons at UNC, he was drafted 14th overall in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft to Sporting Kansas City. He spent 3 years at SKC before moving to New York City FC for 2 years. After his time at NYCFC, Mikey played a year at San Antonio FC, in the USL before joining his current team, Birmingham Legion FC. Mikey is also currently serving in the USSF Athletes’ Council and USLPA Board. Mikey was a member of the US Youth national teams, and represented the USA in the 2013 U20 World Cup.
