Spartans Deepen School's Relationships in Haiti

Biology teacher Johnny Wilson, who will retire from St. Stephen’s in June, led two Haiti trips during spring break in the spirit of service to and fellowship with our sister school, St. Etienne, in rural Salmadere, Haiti. On his last journey as trip leader, Mr. Wilson led 32 students and 12 adults on excursions to explore the beauty of Haiti and its people, helped build several school benches for St. Etienne, and deepened our school’s relationships with the communities of Salmadere, Thomonde and Hinche.

St. Stephen’s students assembled and distributed school supply kits for three Haitian schools, handed out 150 sanitary supply kits so that girls can attend school during their cycles, and played nearly nonstop with local children, all while building relationships that went well beyond everyday conversations.

Although this was the last trip for Mr. Wilson as a faculty member, he and the St. Stephen’s community remain committed to maintaining this important partnership.
