Student Musicians Travel to Haiti
A group of six students and adult musicians left Austin on June 6 for the the annual week-long music camp held at St. Andre Episcopal Church in the Central Plateau of Haiti.
John Moon, St. Stephen's director of orchestras, founded the camp with Pere Walin Descamps in 2005, and the orchestra has grown from four students to 60 students. The St. Stephen's musicians work with the Haitian students, sometimes helping with hand position and fingerings, sometimes running sectionals and sometimes playing with the group.
Whether your first language is Creole, English or Chinese, music really is the universal language!
