ISAS Arts Festival 2019

Volunteer Profile: Jennifer Stayton '85

Name:  Jennifer Stayton '85

Affiliation to St. Stephen's: I graduated from St. Stephen's in 1985. I came back and worked as the Alumni Relations Director from 2001-2004. I have served as Secretary of the Alumni Association. I am currently President of the Spartan Society (the Alumni Association) and sit on the St. Stephen's Board of Trustees.

Why are you volunteering for ISAS? There are so many reasons to get involved and volunteer for ISAS at St. Stephen's next spring! St. Stephen's gave so much to me while I was a student, and volunteering at the Festival is one way that I can give back and show my support for the school. This festival is a massive undertaking for the host school, and volunteering is a way to help out and lighten the load a little for those who are putting so much time and effort into making the Festival happen. With so many venue spaces and performances spread around campus during the Festival, I also know I will get the opportunity to experience some incredible fine and performing arts. And I am hoping to reconnect with some fellow alumni and some Spartan faculty and staff.

How did you participate in ISAS when you were a student? I remember attending two Fine Arts Festivals while I was a student. One was in Tulsa, Oklahoma at Holland Hall in the Spring of 1985. I was in the cast of the musical "Fiddler on the Roof" and we performed an excerpt from the show there. I attended another Fine Arts Festival in Houston, but recalling the exact year and performance is taxing my memory!

What do you look forward to most about the Festival at St. Stephen's? I cannot imagine a more blissful way to spend a few days than immersing myself in the energy and atmosphere of young people sharing their performing and fine arts creations in a setting as beautiful as St. Stephen's. It seems like a no-brainer to me!

Why would you recommend others volunteer for the Festival? One of the many core values St. Stephen's taught us was service to the communities we are a part of, large and small. Here is a fun, easy, and helpful way to live out that important Spartan value of service.
