Wingèd Soliloquies: A Gathering of Birds (Collaboration of Music and Dance)

In The Conference of the Birds, a 12th-century mystical epic by Attar of Nishapur, all the birds of the world gather together to set out on a quest to discover the Simorgh, the Sovereign of the Birds. Ambassadors of global music Atash (six-time Austin Music Award winners for Best World Band) set off on a journey of their own gathering a diverse assortment of distinguished local artists and students to present a multidisciplinary staged performance based on Attar's poem and other world folklore. This day camp for middle and high school students at St. Stephen's Episcopal School offers an opportunity to learn about and explore musical traditions of the world, improvisation, and the art of storytelling through live performance. Students of the performing arts will work with professional artists to develop vignettes to be presented on stage in a public performance at Helm Fine Arts Center at the end of the week. Open to intermediate to advanced students of music and dance.

All communication should go to the Camp Director John Moon, jmoon@sstx.org
