Creative Writing Workshop #1
Ages:  10 to 16 yrs

The St. Stephen’s Summer Creative Writing Workshop gives participants an opportunity to acquire and develop skills in the craft of fiction writing through interactive group lessons; craft-talks and lectures given by accomplished visiting writers; guided writing and revision sessions; and story workshops. The camp is designed to instruct and support participants through every stage of the writing process, from inception to revision.

The St. Stephen’s Summer Creative Writing Workshop is a week-long course of study designed to give young writers an opportunity to acquire and develop skills in the craft of fiction writing. Each day, campers will engage in lessons on subjects like plot, style, point-of-view, and character development; listen to craft-talks and lectures given by visiting authors from the Austin area; participate in guided writing time aimed to help them generate and revise content; and share their written work with other campers and instructors. The last morning of camp will consist primarily of workshops: in small groups, campers will distribute completed manuscripts and give each other feedback--both positive and constructive--in a round-table discussion. The camp will conclude with a pizza party and reading, which will give parents an opportunity to enjoy hearing some of the lovely work produced over the course of the week.
