Latin Students Participate in Regional Classical League Convention

On Saturday, February 24, 29 talented Latin students from St. Stephen’s Middle School and Upper School traveled to Anderson High School in northwest Austin to participate in the annual Texas State Junior Classical League Area F (greater Austin) Convention for a day of academic, artistic, performance and athletic contests. More than 500 Latin students converged on Anderson High to compete in the event.

St. Stephen’s students represented the school well by doing their very best, displaying exemplary sportsmanship, and enjoying being with many other academically inclined students from nearly 30 schools. Classics Department Chair John Rocklin and Latin Teacher Evan Rap, Ph.D., were exceptionally proud of their students, who gave up part of their Saturday to compete and demonstrate their many talents.

Mr. Rocklin and Mr. Rap would like to thank the students who participated; their families who supported them and encouraged them to attend; the many Anderson High School faculty, student and parent volunteers who made this competition a huge success — especially Andy Ellis, Latin teacher and host; and the TSJCL Area F teachers who spent countless hours creating contests and making the student experience positive and fulfilling. We would also like to give a huge shout-out to the families who brought all of the wonderful food to keep our Latin scholars exceptionally well-fed!
