Scholastic Art Award Winners

St. Stephen’s Episcopal School is pleased to announce its Scholastic Regional Art Award winners for 2017.

Twelve Middle School student and 26 Upper School students received 15 Gold Key awards, 18 Silver Key awards and 28 Honorable Mentions for artwork entered in a range of categories, including Film and Animation, Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Fashion, Architecture, Sculpture, Mixed Media, Photography, Cartooning, and Ceramics and Glass. Among the Gold Key award recipients, one was named an American Vision Nominee, which is the top honor given to student-artists.

“This year’s Scholastic Regional Art Awards competition drew an unprecedented number of entries,” said Beatrice Baldwin, art instructor and director of St. Stephen’s Scanlan Art Gallery. “The judges evaluated 1,884 submissions in 16 different categories, including 61 senior art and photography portfolios, in which senior artists submit a group of eight images to be judged as a complete portfolio.”

Ten professional artists adjudicated the various categories and awarded a total of 160 Gold Key Awards and nearly 300 Silver Key and Honorable Mention awards. American Vision Nominees and Gold Key Recipients move on to the national competition, which will be conducted in March.

You can see all the winning artwork via the group's YouTube playlist.
