Middle School Athletics Finishes the Winter Season with Multiple Championships

The Middle School Athletic Program completed a wonderful winter sport season with multiple championships across Swimming, Soccer and Basketball. 

Soccer: The Middle School Soccer teams had an incredible season. Spartan Soccer ended with a win over St. Andrew’s to take home the championship. Red Soccer lost to St. Andrew’s on the 7th penalty kick to finish second place. Purple Soccer was defeated in the semi-final game.

Swimming: The Swim team took home first place at the AIPL Championships. Competing in the Spartan’s home pool, St. Stephen’s swimmers earned first place in both the girls and boys divisions. The girls were led by Campbell Walker (7th grade) who earned first place finishes in the 100m free, 200m free, and the 100 IM, in addition to helping her team win two relays. Ben Staubley (6th grade) was the leading scorer for the boys, picking up a win in the 50 back along with a couple of second place finishes in the 100IM and 50 free. Staubley also added to two relay wins on the afternoon. 

Additional individual event winners included Savy Horne-Lalande (8th grade) in the 50 free, Landis Middleton (7th grade) in the 50 back, and Caden Chen (6th grade) in the 50 breaststroke. Perhaps most notably, every Spartan swimmer in the meet contributed points to the team individually and in all four of the first place relays.

Basketball: The Middle School Basketball teams were also successful at the AIPL Championship Tournament with conference victories from multiple teams. The 6th grade Boys Red team won the championship game, defeating Trinity 38-32. The 7/8th grade Boys Spartan team were crowned champions after dominating Paragon 54-33. The 6th grade Girls Red team won their championship game, too! The 7/8th grade Boys Gray team who defeated St. Francis, 21-15, to finish in first place. The 7/8th grade Purple team battled AJA to a 26-21 finish, walking away with a trophy as well. Runners up were 7/8th Girls Purple team and 7/8th grade Girls Red team.
