Spartan Scoreboard, Sept. 19–24

Cross Country: The Spartan Cross Country team had a great meet at the McNeil Invitational on Friday, Sept. 23. The boys’ team placed 11th overall out of 26 teams. Almost all of our boy runners achieved personal bests. Twelfth grader Fernando Arroyo was the top finisher. On the girls’ side, 12th grader Chloe Benardette came in 30th overall out of 282 runners. Coach Paul Carrozza praised his athletes for their performances. “This was a great showing for our Spartan runners,” he said. “We had lots of personal records from our athletes, who showed a ton of progress in this big meet.” The Spartans will continue to prepare for the SPC meet this month and will compete in their next meet at the Speedster Cross Country Classic on Oct. 8 at 8 a.m.

Field Hockey: Varsity Field Hockey traveled to Fort Worth for the Episcopal Cup on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 23 and 24. The team went 2-1-1 on the weekend, defeating St. Mary’s Hall and St. Andrew’s, drawing with Episcopal School of Dallas, and falling to Casady. The team played lots of hockey to prepare themselves for a big week of upcoming games. The Spartans will face Episcopal on Friday, Sept. 30, and Awty International on Saturday, Oct. 1. The team will also officially unveil their new field hockey turf on Friday during the Spartan Block Party. 

Boys’ Volleyball: The Boys’ Volleyball team defeated Meridian at the start of the week on Monday, Sept. 19. The team got out to a strong start and ended the game in three straight sets. The top scorer was Charlie Dugan, and the digs leader was Trey Phillips. The team faced a strong St. Andrew’s team on Friday, Sept. 23, and fell to the Highlanders in three sets. This week the Spartans will match up with SPC opponents Episcopal and Awty International on Friday, Sept. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.

Football: The Spartan Football team had an incredible game on Friday, Sept. 23, against FEAST Home School. They defeated FEAST 52-0 with a total defensive shut out. Coach Jay Patterson was pleased with the win and stated that it was a complete team win in every part of the game. This week the Spartans have a bye, giving them two weeks to prepare for a championship rematch against Bastrop Tribe. 

Middle School: This week the Spartan Middle School teams had lots of success on the court and field. On Monday, Sept. 19, the 6th-grade Red Girls’ Volleyball team had a big win against St. Andrew’s, defeating them in two sets. On Wednesday, Sept. 21, the Purple Flag Football team defeated St. Andrew’s, 12-0. Touchdowns were scored by 6th graders Austin Train and Will Heyer. Tackle Football defeated Trinity, 45-33. On Thursday, Sept. 22, the Field Hockey team traveled to San Antonio to play St. Mary’s Hall and defeated them, 4-1. The 7t-h and 8th-grade Spartan Girls’ Volleyball team defeated Waldorf in three thrilling sets. Finally, on Friday, Sept. 23, the 6th-grade Purple Girls’ Volleyball team defeated St. Andrew’s in three sets. Way to go Spartans!

Sept. 26-30 is Spirit Week for St. Stephen’s, which will culminate on Friday, Sept. 30, with a number of home games and our annual Spartan Block Party and Campus Cookout. Come support our Spartan teams and enjoy the festivities.
