Please Welcome Our New Faculty and Staff, 2022-23

St. Stephen’s is pleased to introduce the new faculty and staff joining us for the 2022–23 academic year. Please help us welcome these outstanding professionals to our school community!

Anna Armentrout, Ph.D., joined the history department as an Upper School instructor. Most recently, Armentrout taught history at Keystone School in San Antonio. Previously, she taught at the Landon School in Bethesda, Md., and the Southern Connecticut Hebrew Academy in Orange, Conn. She also served as director of student learning and success for the International Student Exchange Programs in Washington, D.C. Armentrout earned a B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. from The University of California–Berkeley.

Dustin Armstrong joined the Athletics staff as Girls’ Basketball Program director and varsity coach, assistant Boys’ Varsity Volleyball coach, and assistant Middle School Athletic Program coordinator. Armstrong also serves as an advisor and the DEI coordinator in the Middle School. He brings a great depth of athletics leadership experience, as he previously served as athletics director and PE coordinator at St. Francis School. He holds a B.S. in communications from The University of Texas at Austin.

Mandy Borer has accepted a role as a part-time nurse for our Health Center. Borer is the mother of Hawkins ’22 and Trinity, Class of 2023, and she served last year as president of the Parents’ Association. She holds a B.S. in Nursing from Texas Christian University. She has worked as an operating room nurse intern and as a manager in orthopedic surgery at Parkland Memorial Hospital. 

Clare Crosby Coakley ’05 joined the Middle School faculty as a science teacher. Most recently, she worked as an ecological planner at Siglo Group, an environmental planning firm. Additionally, Coakley taught AP environmental science and planet earth at the Liberal Arts and Science Academy (LASA) and was a teaching assistant at the University of Vermont. Coakley holds a B.A. in environmental studies and biology from Middlebury College and an M.S. in natural resources from the University of Vermont. She grew up on the St. Stephen’s campus and is excited to return in this new capacity.

Henry Colangelo '18 returned to The Hill this fall as a fellow. He will serve as assistant to the head of school during Alison Chang’s maternity leave through mid-September, and then will continue on as evening librarian and testing coordinator. Colangelo recently graduated from The University of Texas with a B.A. in history. We are thrilled to have him return to campus.

Karla Enloe joined the College Counseling Office as office manager. Enloe brings extensive experience to the position. Her previous administrative roles included teacher, instructional coach and assistant principal in Austin ISD, principal in the Franklin ISD, and teacher, instructional coach and dean of instruction in the Bryan ISD. Enloe earned a B.S. from Texas A&M University and an M.Ed. from Sam Houston State University.

The Rev. Aimée Eyer-Delevett accepted the call to be St. Stephen’s new head chaplain and a member of the school’s Residential Life Program. Most recently, Eyer-Delevett served as rector of All Saints-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church and Parish School in Santa Barbara, Calif. Previously, she served as the rector of Church of the Holy Nativity in Clarendon Hills, Ill., curate of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Park Ridge, Ill. and chaplain resident at Grady Health Systems in Atlanta, Ga. She received her B.A. from Wellesley College, Master of Divinity from Emory College and Master of Sacred Theology from General Theological Seminary. Prior to attending seminary, Eyer-Delevett was a human rights worker in Japan and South Africa and a social worker in the Southern United States.

Walter “Ace” Furman ’12 joined the Upper School faculty as a physics instructor. Furman will earn his Ph.D. in physics from The University of Texas at Austin this spring. He holds a B.A. in physics from Reed College and has worked as a teacher’s aid, tutor, research assistant and researcher. Furman was nominated for the William S. Livingston Outstanding Graduate Student Academic Employee Award at UT for his work on lab manuals and templates used by other teaching assistants.

Simon Hairston joined the Upper School as a Spanish instructor. Hairston holds a B.A. in Spanish from Tarleton State University and is working on a M.E.T. at Boise State University. He has taught Spanish in Leander ISD and Round Rock ISD, as well as at the American School of Warsaw and Cairo American College. Hairston has led school-sponsored student trips to Indonesia, China and Croatia. In 2009 he was recognized as the “Outstanding New Hire” in Coppell ISD, and he received the “Friendliest Teacher Award” at Coppell High School in 2011 and 2012.

Bea Hodavdekar was named the fourth co-director of College Counseling. Most recently, Hodavdekar served as associate director of College Counseling at Sacred Heart Prep in Atherton, Calif., and she worked in college counseling at the Menlo School. Hodavdekar also has worked in a variety of college admission offices, including at Pomona College, The University of California–Berkeley, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University. She holds a B.A. from the University of Northern Colorado and an M.Ed. from Harvard University.

Raffi Kiureghian joined the Upper School faculty as an English instructor. Kiureghian is a Ph.D. candidate in English literature at The University of Texas at Austin and holds an M.A. in English literature from UT, an M.F.A. in poetry from Brooklyn College and a B.A. in English from Vassar College. He also worked as a graduate student research fellow, research assistant, tutor, assistant instructor and graduate teaching assistant at UT. Additionally, he was an adjunct lecturer and admissions counselor at CUNY–Brooklyn College, a tutor at Private Prep Inc. in New York City, a teacher’s aide at La Canada Preparatory School in La Canada, Calif., and a student teacher at Poughkeepsie High School in New York.

A member of the Class of 2014, Andrew Lopez is a familiar face to many in our school community. Lopez recently returned to St. Stephen’s as a Soccer Academy coach and dorm parent. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned a B.A. in exercise and sports science. Most recently, he worked at Darlington School in Rome, Ga., where he was Soccer Academy head coach and a dorm parent. Prior to this role, he served as coach and operations assistant at Round Rock Soccer Club.

Felicity Maltby recently joined the Athletics staff full time as a Tennis Academy coach. Maltby has worked as a part-time coach at St. Stephen’s since May of 2019. She earned her B.A. from Texas Tech, where she was the Big XII Tennis Champion in 2017 and Big XII Player of the Year in 2019. She also was a four-year Big XII All Academic and the Texas Tech Women’s Tennis Team captain her senior year.

Keith Morgenstern joined the Upper School faculty as a chemistry instructor. He comes to St. Stephen’s by way of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where he recently served as an ORISE fellow. Previously, he worked as an associate chemist at Ingevity, as a lab tech and research assistant at the College of Charleston, and as a clinical study patient recruiter at the Medical University of South Carolina. Morgenstern holds a B.S. in biochemistry from The College of Charleston.

Cordelia Ross, Ph.D., joined the Upper School faculty as an English instructor. Most recently, she was an assistant professor at Brazosport College in Lake Jackson. Prior to that role, she was an instructor at the University of Alabama and an associate instructor, teaching assistant and research assistant at The University of California–Davis. Ross already has been involved in the St. Stephen’s DCAP Caving Program and is a caving instructor through the National Cave Rescue Commission. She holds a Ph.D. from The University of California–Davis, an M.A. from The University of Chicago and a B.A. from Dartmouth.

Dave Sayers, D.M.A. joined the fine arts faculty as jazz band instructor. Sayers holds a B.Mus. in saxophone performance from the University of South Florida and a M.M. in improvisation from the University of Michigan. He earned his doctorate degree in musical arts from The University of Texas at Austin in jazz studies. Since 2017, He has served as an assistant professor at Southwestern University teaching applied saxophone, jazz band and jazz theory.

Terri Sheets began work last spring as a graphic designer and multimedia producer in the school’s Marketing and Communications Office. She brings more than 20 years of creative graphic design experience to the role. As founder of the graphic design firm MediaNation, Sheets supported a wide range of clients, including Austin Hotel and Lodging Association, Colorado Country Life Magazine, Rodeo Austin and Taste of Wimberley. Most recently, she served as communications manager and senior designer at the Department of Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars in Austin. Sheets has a B.S. in visual communications from Illinois State University.

Coach Terrmel Sledge recently joined the Athletics department this year full time. He previously had served in a part-time capacity as manager of the school’s Baseball Program. Sledge played four years in the major leagues, as an outfielder and first baseman, for the Montreal Expos, Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres. Following his tenure in the majors, Sledge played professionally in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Japan. He coached in the minor league system for two years with the Chicago Cubs and three years with the Los Angeles Dodgers before moving to the majors as a coach. He served as assistant hitting coach for the Chicago Cubs during their 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Aaron Snyder joined the faculty as an Upper School English instructor. From 2005 to 2021, Snyder taught English, Latin and economics at The Thacher School, where he also served as a dorm head; football, baseball and basketball coach; and a member of the judicial council and faculty advisory committee. He also served on numerous curricular development and DEI committees. Snyder holds a B.A. in English from Princeton University, an M.A. in English from Middlebury College, and an M.Ed. from Columbia University.

Theana Snyder joined the Upper School faculty as a math instructor. She taught all levels of high school math at The Thacher School, where she served as cross-country coach, director of the community service program, head of the independent program, camping coordinator, and director of the morning jobs program. Snyder holds a B.A. in mathematics and an M.A.T. in secondary mathematics from Colorado College.

Sharon Sparlin joined the Advancement Office as advancement services associate during the summer. Sparlin has more than 20 years of experience in database management and fund development in the nonprofit sector, including work with the YMCA, CASA and, most recently, the National Domestic Hotline. In her spare time, she leads guided nature tours at Bright Leaf Preserve.

Nicole Turner joined our Health Services team as health education coordinator. Most recently, she worked as the adolescent health and youth development program trainer and the youth development coordinator for Cobb and Douglas Public Health in the Atlanta area. Additionally, she worked as a health education coordinator, case manager and health educator in Douglasville, Ga. Turner holds a B.A. in public health from the University of South Carolina and an M.S. in health promotion and education from Walden University.

Meredith Petry White joined the math department as an Upper School instructor. She recently served as middle school math chair at St. Andrew's Episcopal School and as head of the math department at Rawson Saunders. She has great experience in math education gained through a fellowship with Math for America and from teaching math at the Urban Assembly School for Criminal Justice, Bronx Leadership Academy II and St. Barnabas High School. White earned her B.S. in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University and her M.A. in mathematics education from New York University.
