Spartan Athlete of the Week: Kendall Dowd, 12th Grade

In the game of field hockey, scoring is not always the most important thing. Sometimes, the stop is what changes the game. That’s what 12th grader Kendall Dowd did for the Spartans all season. She showed up in the big moments, and saved a lot of games with big stops from the cage.

Dowd was in full force during the last game of the season at the SPC tournament in Dallas on Nov. 6. She saved a penalty stroke to keep the score 0-0, which allowed the Spartan Field Hockey team to take the lead later in the first half. In the last few minutes, her commanding presence in our defensive unit and her agility made the difference for her team. The Spartans won the game and took home fifth place overall in a tough SPC tournament.

“Kendall is a game-changer for us, but she doesn’t always get the glory,” said Dowd’s coach, Chelsea Richards. “When she’s on the field, she’s all business and directs our back line from her position in the cage. When she’s off the field, Kendall is approachable and welcoming. When you watch her play, it’s easy to see how much she enjoys competing with her team — and this weekend was no different.”

Dowd will be remembered by her Spartan teammates as a great leader and player. Way to go!
