Spartan Athlete of the Week: Ben Center, 12th Grade

The Spartan Boys’ Volleyball team is headed to Dallas this week for the SPC tournament, which marks the final games for our 12th-grade players. One in particular, Ben Center, has been a driving force for the team and is looking to finish out his high school career on a high note.

Center is a main component in the Spartan’s offense and a steady force at the net. He also commands the backcourt as one of the best passers on the team and a weapon at the service line. His energy is infectious, and he can change the course of a match with his court presence and demeanor.

During the team’s match on Oct. 30 against Awty International, Center was sensational on offense and stayed resilient in the back-and-forth battle that ended in a 3-0 sweep. This win pushed the Spartans forward and positioned them well for the first round of playoffs on Nov. 4.

Coach Lindsey Rosenthal has been impressed with Center’s leadership. “Ben keeps our team together through the tough points and leads the celebrations when the team makes a great play,” she said. “He’s the undisputed leader of our team. We hope to rely on his confident game play going into the SPC tournament.”

The Spartans play on Thursday, Nov. 4, at 5 p.m. against Casady School in Dallas. Follow the St. Stephen’s Athletics Instagram page @sstxathletics to stay up to date with the Boys’ Volleyball team.
