Spartan Artists Receive Perfect Scores in V.A.S.E. Competition
Two Spartan artists, 11th grader Ray Swartz and 10th grader Chelsea Xue, submitted works to Texas Art Education Association’s Visual Arts Scholastic Event (V.A.S.E.) competition, which was held virtually on March 6.
For the competition, Swartz submitted a black-and-white photograph titled “Family Portrait,” and Xue submitted the painting “One Day She Will.” This was the first time either artist submitted work to the regional art event.
“V.A.S.E. is a unique art event in which students submit art and written statements that explain their process, research, self-analysis, execution of technique and overall personal expression,” said Elizabeth Zepeda, Upper School art instructor. “They both did exceptionally well, each earning perfect scores!”
Swartz’s work was selected to advance to the state competition.
