EPIC Teammates of the Week: 7th Graders Maya Patel and Keyen Gupta

This week 7th and 8th grade basketball players voted to honor Maya Patel and Keyen Gupta as their EPIC Teammates of the Week. It is clear from their practice demeanor the season, as well as their play at last week’s games, that they both have demonstrated the four pillars of the Middle School Athletic Creed: Excellence, Pride, Integrity and Commitment (EPIC). 

Coach Donna Cowling raved about Patel’s composure on the court. “She exudes calmness in the face of pressure and is an inspiration to her teammates,” Cowling said. Moreover, Patel shoulders the team’s challenges and supports her teammates without reservation. “She’s a consummate leader,” her coach added. 

Gupta also proved to be an invaluable leader on the court this winter. “Keyen is the definition of a team player and competitor,” said Coach Kelton Malone. “He’ll do whatever you ask of him, and he’ll take pride in doing the job he is given.” 

Coach Roman Rhone also praised Gupta’s impact on his team. “Keyen’s love for the game is infectious,” Rhone noted. “Whether he is on or off the court, he provides our team energy, focus and joy.”

The EPIC Teammate of the Week honors a student who is nominated by their peers for demonstrating first-hand the four pillars in the Middle School Athletic Creed: Excellence, Pride, Integrity and Commitment (EPIC).
