Sports Spotlight: Ian Chamoun, 12th Grade

Most of his teammates and opponents could attest that senior Spartan athlete Ian Chamoun has extraordinary energy. Although the current year in athletics has presented its fair share of obstacles due to the pandemic, Chamoun has remained a steadfast and positive source of energy and enthusiasm on his teams.

As a captain of Boys’ Varsity Soccer, Chamoun gives his all to training and keeps the competitiveness alive with his gritty play in goal. A three-year starter for the squad, he often goes unrecognized simply because he is goalkeeper, a position that typically is not as glorified as other positions at the end of a match.

“Ian has been an active team captain and is, most games, the best goalkeeper on the field and the best player for St. Stephen’s,” said Head Boys’ Soccer Coach Wallis Goodman.

Athletic Director Jon McCain echoed Goodman’s sentiments, making particular note of Chamoun’s dominating presence. “Ian’s physicality as a goalkeeper is impressive to watch, but more importantly, his communication skills make him a leader to the Spartan defense,” McCain said.

Chamoun’s athletic talents are not limited to soccer. He captained the Boys’ Varsity Volleyball team and has competed on the Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse team in past seasons.

Each week, the athletic department and coaching staff feature a Spartan player who stands out among their peers. Check back next week to see which student-athletes will be featured in our Sports Spotlight!
