Electronics and Robotics Class Progresses at Home

Throughout spring term, students in Troy Lanier's Electronics and Robotics class have been learning how to implement computer vision on an inexpensive single-board computer called a Raspberry Pi. Despite the shift to remote learning from home, Lanier ensured his students' work was not disrupted by helping them set up their own home robotics lab.

The Raspberry Pi boards, which were originally going to be shipped to Lanier's classroom at St. Stephen's, were rerouted and shipped directly to students' homes, where they can plug them into their own television as a monitor. When international commerce rules slowed down this redirect, Lanier worked with students to locate the electronics in their own home countries. From Thailand and Korea to Jamaica and Texas, each student now has the resources they need to work virtually alongside Lanier in their own home robotics lab.

The images here show Lanier's home studio set-up, as well as images from around the world of students using the Raspberry Pi on their own desktops.
