Science Teachers Donate Much-Needed Medical Supplies

In the wake of medical supply shortages due to coronavirus, St. Stephen’s science teacher Lauren Murphy reached out to colleagues Kathy McCain and Dean Mohlman about the immediate need for medical gloves in the Austin community. Realizing they could help with this urgent need, these incredible teachers gathered more than 5,000 medical gloves — earmarked for use during dissections in science classes — and donated the much-needed items to local physicians and nurses who can use them immediately.

Representative of the Travis County Medical Society (TCMS) were extremely grateful for the supplies, noting that doctors and nurses across Central Texas are experiencing severe supply chain shortages of personal protective equipment. One TCMS representative even shared a story of a local obstetrician who was worried about doctors’ ability to deliver babies due to a lack of gloves.

Murphy, McCain and Mohlman ask all members of our school community to consider donating extra protective gear to support medical personnel in our community. Medical gloves, masks and other protective gear can be donated to Travis County Medical Society, 4300 N. Lamar Blvd., daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
