Spartan Athletes of the Week: Pacitti and Moss

Three cheers for our Spartan Athletes of the Week: Greg Pacitti (12th grade) and Katie Moss (12th grade). Both varsity soccer players helped their teams punch a ticket to the SPC Championships that begin on Thursday, Feb. 13.

Greg Pacitti dominated midfield play for the Spartans last Friday in the team’s 1-1 tie with crosstown rival St. Andrew’s. Pacciti’s presence in the center of the field has been steady all season. His awareness on the ball and ability to see open spaces on the pitch allowed the Spartans to maintain possession during pivotal moments of play. Coach Wallis Goodman commended Pacitti for his consistency on Friday. “Greg played the entire 80 minutes and was as strong at the end of the game as he was at the beginning,” Goodman noted. Pacitti and the Spartan boys varsity team travel to Dallas on Thursday afternoon for a match against SPC North Zone’s third seed St. Mark’s. The team will take on the Lions at 5:30 p.m. at Greenhill.

Katie Moss has been a force all year for the Spartan defensive unit, and Friday’s match against St. Andrew’s was no exception. Moss managed a speedy attacking line from the Highlanders with poise, staying focused when play creeped into the defensive third of the pitch. Whether it was a well-timed tackle, a perfectly placed through-ball or a word of encouragement to teammates on the field, Moss’ efforts on Friday certainly contributed to the team’s 2-1 victory over St. Andrew’s. On Thursday, Moss and her teammates travel to Dallas to compete in the SPC Championships. The squad faces SPC North Zone’s fourth seed Trinity Valley in their first game of the tournament at 7:30 p.m. at Hockaday.
