Athletes of the Week: Courtney and Hurst

Hearty congratulations go to Sarah Courtney and Jacob Hurst for earning Spartan Athlete of the Week honors for their performances in last week’s contests.

Sarah Courtney (11th grade), a defensive force on the Varsity Field Hockey team, shut down the Crusaders’ front line last week in the Spartans’ 6-0 victory under the lights at West Ridge Middle School. Courtney’s explosive speed and savvy anticipation of the play kept the Cru in their defensive half for the majority of the game. Smart possession passing from the Spartans allowed for a sustained attack, and additional credit goes to Courtney and the back line for their solid distribution and decisions on the ball. Cheer on Courtney and the rest of the squad on Friday, Oct. 18, at 5 p.m. as the Spartans host Houston Christian on Meredith Field.

Senior receiver and linebacker Jacob Hurst (12th grade) made waves on Friday despite the Saints’ loss to SPC opponent Fort Worth Country Day. On the offensive side of the ball, Hurst caught three passes for 85 yards with a long of 36 yards. Defensively, Hurst was equally as dominant as he notched six tackles, including two tackles for a loss and one broken pass. As the conference season heats up, Hurst and the Saints are ready for the challenge. This week the team battle Episcopal School of Dallas at St. Andrew’s on Friday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m.
