Athletes of the Week: Bernard and Breckwoldt

 

Kudos to Spartan athletes Taylor Bernard and George Breckwoldt for earning Athlete of the Week honors for their performances in last weekend’s conference games!

 

Taylor Bernard (10th grade) dominated the court and helped Varsity Girls Volleyball pick up two important SPC wins over the weekend. Bernard, an outside hitter and two-year varsity starter, led the team in kills in their 3-0 victory over Kinkaid. On Saturday, Bernard sustained a similarly impressive performance in the team’s 3-1 win over Awty International. With this weekend’s success, Varsity Girls Volleyball improved to a 2-2 SPC record. The Spartans return to conference action on Friday, Oct.18, when the squad battles Houston Christian at 6 p.m. in Clayton Gym.

 

Quarterback George Breckwoldt (12th grade) marched the Austin Saints toward victory on Friday night against Trinity Valley. Breckwoldt was 20-of-32 for a total of 242 yards on the night. In addition, the senior threw for three touchdowns with a long of 68 yards. As a leader on the field, Breckwoldt helped the Saints’ offense control the clock to keep the Trojans at bay, ultimately earning the homecoming victory, 21-6. The Saints are undefeated in SPC play and remain at the top of the 3A division. This Friday, the team travels to take on Fort Worth Country Day in their third conference game of the season.
