Siofra Murdoch Named to Under-21 Irish Field Hockey Team

St. Stephen’s student-athlete Siofra Murdoch returned from spring break with exciting news. The senior day student, who had been invited to participate in a two-day training camp and assessment in Dublin, Ireland, during the break, has been named to the Development Squad of the Under-21 Irish National Field Hockey Team.

Murdoch, 17, who was born in Ireland, will make her first international appearance for the Under-21 Irish squad this summer in games against Canada and India, on May 27 and June 6, respectively.

“I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to play at such a high level,” Murdoch said. “I'm truly honored for the chance to wear the green.” The Irish National Field Hockey Team, fondly known as the Green Army, earned silver medals in the 2018 Women’s Field Hockey World Cup and is currently ranked eighth globally.

Murdoch, who started playing field hockey when she was 10 years old, signed a National Letter of Intent in February to play at Harvard University, where she plans to study biomedical engineering. In addition, Murdoch earned Second-Team All-American honors after her junior and senior seasons and was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association’s National High School Academic Squad both years.

As a Spartan, Murdoch helped the school’s varsity field hockey team finish third in the Southwest Preparatory Conference in her junior and senior years and earned all-conference selections in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. She also has earned St. Stephen’s highest athletic-academic achievement, the David Paschall Award, all four years of Upper School for maintaining academic honor roll while competing on a varsity team each term.
