Entrepreneur Club Evaluates New Product Ideas

On Nov. 11, St. Stephen's Entrepreneur Club hosted “Pitch-a-Kid,” a special community-wide event for local start-ups and entrepreneurs. During the program, six companies pitched their ideas and/or products to a panel of St. Stephen's student judges. The program was beneficial to all participants, as it connected students to real entrepreneurs to enhance learning and helped entrepreneurs refine their pitches by explaining to an audience what they do, how they do it and why.

Each idea pitched was scored by the student judges, who considered the value proposition of their idea, business model, market research and market validation, energy of the team, overall vision, and use of funds. Participants competed for cash prizes for first, second and third place.

St. Stephen's Entrepreneur Club is a student-led organization that meets once a week and currently comprises about 30 students. The mission of the club is to foster the next generation of young entrepreneurs through education by covering the fundamentals of business to cultivate their interests as future leaders and by inspiring innovation that positively impacts the world.

In addition to learning the fundamentals of business and entrepreneurship, club members host their own "Shark Tank” style programming throughout the course of the year, such as the Pitch-a Kid event. The club also maintains a website, Project M.E., for “developing the next generation of entrepreneurs.” St. Stephen's Entrepreneur Club is sponsored by Jon McCain, who teaches economics at the school.
