Middle School Chaplain

St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Austin, Texas, a diocesan day and boarding school of approximately 697 students in grades 6-12 in the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, is seeking a full-time chaplain for the Middle School. The Middle School Chaplain will join the Head of School, Upper School Chaplain and Head Chaplain to serve as one of the primary stewards of programming to support the school’s Episcopal identity, which states: “St. Stephen’s is a caring, diverse community, inclusive of all faiths and grounded in the Christian tradition, which nurtures moral growth and values the potential and dignity of every human being.”

The Middle School Chaplain’s primary responsibilities will include:

• Along with the Head Chaplain, preside four times per week at Middle School chapel worship services.
• Provide pastoral care to students, faculty and staff in the Middle School.
• Teach Theology classes in 8th grade.
• Coordinate curricular service learning events for the Middle School.
• Participate in Middle School administrative meetings.

Qualified candidates must have theological and pastoral training either through graduate-level study (e.g., M.Div) or through an intensive lay program. Preferred candidates will be ordained in the Episcopal Church and have experience leading worship with young people.
