Spiritual Life

Episcopal Identity

St. Stephen's Episcopal School, a coeducational boarding and day school of the Diocese of Texas, is a caring, diverse community, inclusive of all faiths and grounded in the Christian tradition, which nurtures moral growth and values the potential and dignity of every human being.

St. Stephen’s, a school rooted in the Episcopal tradition of education, encourages and nurtures the inner life with daily chapel and theology courses. Interfaith and international, the St. Stephen’s student body learns respect and appreciation for other religions and perspectives. Students exposed to diverse belief systems develop tolerance for divergent points of view, an understanding of universal tenets, and a deepened appreciation for their own religious tradition.

Weekly Sunday services are conducted for the residential community and all others who would like to attend.
St. Stephen's Episcopal School welcomes students, faculty, and staff from many religious backgrounds and practices. We are a diocesan school of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, and our daily chapel services are in the Episcopal tradition. However, we thrive on diversity, emphasizing the value and dignity of our students' diverse individual religious practices and spiritual needs. We encourage members of every spiritual tradition to seek clarity about their own beliefs and to honor their own traditions more fully and faithfully in their lives.

The Episcopal tradition values reason as a way to wisdom and understanding. We encourage students to pursue their own questions, while integrating what we have inherited from the past. Theology classes in the 8th and 12th grades provide opportunities to do this, and we also offer Bible studies and discussion groups based on spirituality and world religions.
Our mission is also to "strive for justice and peace among all people and respect the dignity of every human being." We value service to the local and global communities, respect for the earth, and the uniqueness of every member of our community.
