Students in grades 9-12 may participate with interscholastic athletic teams each school term. Requirements for participation vary according to grade level. Every 9th, 10th, and new 11th grade student must participate in one sport per year. To receive a sport credit, a student must compete on a team for a full term.
Students can compete in baseball, basketball, crew, cross country, field hockey, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, track and volleyball. Additionally, alternative activities are offered for a sport credit: caving (fall), cheerleading (fall), dance, and rock climbing (spring).
St. Stephen’s is a charter member of the Southwest Preparatory Conference, which includes 18 schools from Austin, Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Irving, Tulsa and Oklahoma City. All conference schools are members of the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest. Varsity teams from each interscholastic sport compete for SPC championships during each sport season. Sub-varsity teams are also offered in many sports.
Grades are based on attendance, participation, attitude, commitmentcommitment, and work ethic. The Athletic Department will assist students who seek to compete in college-level sports
. Through participation in athletics, many Spartan students have broadened their opportunities to attend top colleges and universities.
