Alum and NCAA champ Coby Carrozza ’20 joins Team USA member Shaine Casas to coach Spartans in the pool
St. Stephen’s Episcopal School announces a dynamic new leadership team for its powerhouse swimming and diving program, hiring elite international competitor and Texas A&M standout Shaine Casas as head swim coach and St. Stephen’s alum and decorated collegiate swimmer Coby Carrozza ’20 as assistant coach. Together, the duo brings world-class competitive experience, technical expertise and deep local roots to lead the program.
Casas, a three-time NCAA Division I National Champion at Texas A&M University, is widely recognized as one of the most versatile and explosive swimmers on the global stage. As a multiple-time World Championship medalist and USA Swimming National Team member, Casas brings extraordinary expertise across backstroke, butterfly and individual medley disciplines that will directly benefit Spartan student-athletes across all strokes.
Carrozza, a 2020 St. Stephen’s graduate, returns to his alma mater following a stellar collegiate career at the University of Texas at Austin, where he won an NCAA National Championship and earned multiple All-American honors. He also represented Team USA internationally as a World Championship relay medalist and Pan American Games champion. His Spartan return bridges elite-level achievement with firsthand knowledge of the St. Stephen’s student-athlete experience.
“Bringing Shaine and Coby on board to partner with returning coach Jen Walker creates an unmatched leadership team for our student-athletes,” said Jon McCain, St. Stephen’s Athletic Director. “Shaine brings technical brilliance and experience from the highest tiers of global competition, while Coby pairs that same elite background with a deep love for St. Stephen’s. Together, they establish a standard of excellence that will inspire our team to reach new heights both in the pool and in the classroom.”
Casas will oversee overall team strategy, technical mechanics and elite training design, while Carrozza and Walker will focus on athlete development, stroke refinement and preserving the school’s unique team culture.
“I am thrilled to take on this role at St. Stephen’s alongside Coby,” said Casas. “We share a vision for building a program rooted in technique, mental discipline and continuous improvement. I look forward to bringing everything I’ve learned at the college and international levels to help every swimmer on this roster unlock their full potential.”
“Coming back to St. Stephen’s as a coach is an incredible full-circle moment,” added Carrozza. “This school shaped me as both an athlete and a person. Partnering with Shaine to coach the next generation of Spartans in the very pool where I grew up is an exciting honor.”
The Spartans will open the 2026-27 swim season under the leadership of Casas, Carrozza and Walker with ambitious goals and high energy as they prepare for their conference meet in February. The team trains and competes at the new St. Stephen’s Aquatic Center, a world-class facility that opened in the fall of 2025 and features an indoor, Olympic-length Myrtha pool overlooking Lake Austin.
