New Head Varsity Volleyball Coaches Announced

New Spartan Athletics staff is expected to elevate both the girls’ and boys' volleyball teams, improving skill level and athletic development.

St. Stephen’s Episcopal School is thrilled to add two dynamic coaches to lead its Boys and Girls Varsity Volleyball Programs, beginning in August 2025. The appointments of Alex Hurlburt and Paula Trejos signal an exciting new chapter for the Spartan volleyball teams as the school continues to invest in the athletic excellence, development and growth of its student-athletes.

Nationally respected coach Alex Hurlburt will take the helm of the Boys Varsity Volleyball Program, bringing a wealth of experience and elite-level insight to St. Stephen’s. He has served on the USA Men’s U21 National Team Staff since 2022 and currently leads training efforts for the Volleyball Institute, a premier volleyball development organization that operates across the United States. Hurlburt’s passion for mentorship and technical expertise is expected to elevate the boys' program and inspire a new generation of Spartan athletes.

Paula Trejos returns to St. Stephen’s to lead the Girls Varsity Volleyball Program in a full-time role. Trejos is no stranger to the Spartan community, having previously served as an assistant varsity coach. Most recently, she was the head varsity coach at Brentwood Christian School, where she led the team to a district championship. During her first year as Brentwood’s head coach, the team finished as the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) 4A state runner-up. Trejos has also coached competitively with Austin Performance Volleyball Club, one of the region’s top club programs. Her return marks a full-circle moment, and her deep understanding of the school's values and student-athlete culture will be a major asset.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Coach Hurlburt and Coach Trejos into their new leadership roles,” said Jon McCain, Athletic Director at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School. “Their experience, integrity, and commitment to both personal and athletic growth align perfectly with our mission. We look forward to watching our volleyball programs thrive under their guidance.”
