The State of St. Stephen’s School Address

Head of School Chris Gunnin outlines and envisions the school’s future during Reunion Weekend 2025.

Hundreds of St. Stephen’s alumni, representing various classes throughout the school’s almost 75-year history, gathered to celebrate, reconnect and reminisce about their time on campus as students during Reunion Weekend held April 4-6.

During the weekend event, Head of School Chris Gunnin shared some of the school’s recent successes in his state-of-the-school address, highlighting student and faculty achievements, in academics, the arts and athletics. Gunnin also shared the success of notable school-wide events, such as Martin Luther King, Jr. day, the Literary Festival, and the 8th grade Big Bend trip.

In addition to celebrating its seven-decade history that will “enhance and elevate great traditions we’ve always had,” throughout the 2025-26 academic year, St. Stephen’s plans to officially launch the public phase of an ambitious comprehensive campaign in the fall of 2025. To date, donors have already committed $48.9 million.

Gunnin says campaign priorities include growing the endowment, increasing the annual fund, and developing facilities that match the caliber of St. Stephen’s programming. Capital projects will include the fully funded Still Water Foundation Aquatic Center. Other proposed projects include a new Science and Technology Center, an expansion and renovation of the Chapel, and a new Student Support Center that will “elevate and showcase our commitment to health, to show students, it’s ok to ask for help.”

Gunnin shared that the Board of Trustees will determine and vote on the public campaign goals at its May 9 meeting. Gunnin shared his gratitude for the gifts of alumni, parents and friends and his belief that the campaign will position St. Stephen’s for success for the next 75 years and beyond.
