Students Published in Chinese Language Magazine

Creative works by St. Stephen’s 11th graders Anna Kavanagh and Zachary Tan recently were selected for publication in JUHE, a Chinese essay magazine sponsored by the Center for Asian and Pacific Studies at University of Iowa.
JUHE is the only annual American magazine dedicated to publishing highly selective writings by Chinese language students. Kavanagh, who is enrolled in Chinese VI with Hai Zheng Olefsky, wrote a personal piece about the impact COVID-19 has had on her friends and family. Tan, who takes Chinese IV with Emilie Xu, wrote the poem “Full Moon Night.”
JUHE primarily publishes works by college-level Chinese language learners. Only a few select high school students’ works are selected for the magazine each year.
Other St. Stephen’s Chinese language students published in JUHE include McKenna Potter ’19, 2018; Kisara Moore ’17, 2015; Anique Toscano ’14, 2012; Alesia Lujan-Hernandez ’12, 2011; Gregory Lastrapes ’14, 2010; Robbin Goodman ’10, 2009; and Adam Schlegel ’09, 2008.
