Jorn Dammann, a member of the Class of 2020, has been recognized as a National Merit Scholarship winner. A day student from Austin, Dammann received a scholarship from the State Farm Companies Foundation. He plans to attend Yale University in the fall.
“Jorn is a good-spirited student and extremely serious about his classwork,” said Michael Oberle, Dammann’s advisor and 11th-grade calculus teacher. “He always gives 100 percent to whatever he is doing. In addition to playing in the school's jazz band, he is well known around campus for his exceptional chess skills.”
The $2,500 Merit Scholar designees were chosen from among more than 15,000 outstanding finalists in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. Award winners in each state are judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
