Quiz Bowl is a quick-paced competition in which teams of four players compete to answer questions that cover academic subjects, popular culture and current events. According to the Texas Quiz Bowl Alliance, a partner of the National Academic Quiz Tournaments, there are 20 tossup questions per game. Each question is available to all students; however, each team only gets to buzz in and answer one time per question. The team that provides the correct answer earns the opportunity for a three-part, 30-point bonus. Questions typically cover a range of academic disciplines, including literature, science, mathematics, arts, music, religion, mythology, philosophy, history, geography, general knowledge, current events, pop culture and sports.
