St. Stephen's Episcopal School in Austin, Texas, a day and boarding community of 697 students (grades 6-12), is seeking an enthusiastic and personable Head of Upper School for a full-time position, beginning August 2019.
The Head of Upper School is responsible for leading the upper division and collaborating with a strong faculty and an administrative team that seeks to take a great school to an even greater level of serving students. The successful candidate for the Head of Upper School position will demonstrate expertise in team building, in supporting faculty innovation with curriculum and pedagogy, and in working with and enjoying all three constituencies of the Upper School: students, faculty, and parents.
The Head of Upper School is responsible for the day-to-day management of the upper school academic and extracurricular programs, including:
Supervision of faculty and other direct reports.
Oversight of student issues.
Interacting with parents.
Communications with all stakeholders.
Planning and attending school events.
Serving as the face of the division.
Planning and officiating ceremonies.
Lead in maintaining student morale, healthy student-community relationships, and satisfactory conduct and appearance.
Teaching and coaching as necessary.
Assisting with editing handbooks.
Serving as liaison for the myriad of constituencies in the Upper School community.
The Head of Upper School reports directly to the Head of School. Candidates should be experienced administrators with significant experience in independent school education, a record of teaching excellence, strong leadership skills, creativity, and advanced degrees in and/or demonstrated expertise in curriculum and instruction. The Head of Upper School lives on campus and participates in the residential program.
