Spartan Athletes of the Week: Sydney Durrett & Lex Gonzalez
Congratulations to Sydney Durrett ‘28 and Lex Gonzalez ‘27 for earning Spartan Athlete of the Week honors!
Sydney Durrett has been an impact player all year for the Spartan Varsity Volleyball team, and last week was no different. She dominated at the serving line and at the net in the team’s recent 3-0 victory over the Texas Lions.
“Sydney is such a determined player,” remarked Girls Volleyball Program Head Paula Trejos. “She will do whatever she can to help the team win a point. She makes big plays in pivotal moments for us, in large part because she comes to training every day ready to put in the work.”
Durrett and her teammates on the Varsity Girls Volleyball team travel to Fort Worth on Friday to take on Fort Worth Country Day School in a Southwest Preparatory Conference match.
Lex Gonzalez has been a true leader for the Varsity Boys Volleyball team this fall. He has stepped into a brand new position and is leading the team offensively. Last weekend, in the team’s 3-0 Southwest Preparatory Conference victory over the Kinkaid School (Houston, Texas), Lex ran an efficient and well-balanced offense, helping Spartan hitters nearly double the team's season average of hitting efficiency.
“Lex is a tremendous athlete and leader,” commented Boys Volleyball Program Head Alex Hurlbert. “That said, he’s an even better person - and one that we’re lucky to have leading our squad this season.”
Come cheer on Lex and the Boys Varsity Volleyball team as they battle Greenhill at home on Friday, October 17, at 5 pm in Clayton Gym!
