Spartan Athletes of the Week: Josh Mugo and Sydney Durrett

Spartan Athletes of the Week: Josh Mugo and Sydney Durrett

Congratulations to Josh Mugo and Sydney Durrett for earning Spartan Athlete of the Week honors!

Josh Mugo ’27 dominated the court on Friday in the Boys Varsity Volleyball team’s conference match against Fort Worth Country Day School. Across just three sets, Mugo converted 45 swings into an astounding 32 kills. His impressive .622 hitting efficiency is a testament to hours of off-season work on the court and helped his team earn a convincing victory over the Falcons!

“Josh’s impact goes well beyond the numbers,” said Boys Volleyball Program Head Alex Hurlburt. “He’s an incredible all-around athlete who contributes in every phase of the game and continues to be a huge part of our team’s success.”

Mugo and his teammates take on IDEA Kyle on Thursday before traveling to Bryan, Texas, this weekend to compete in the Aggieland Tournament.

Sydney Durrett ’28 was a vital player in the Girls Varsity Volleyball team’s conference victories over Fort Worth Country Day School and Trinity Valley School last weekend. She powered the offense with 13 kills on Friday and 23 kills on Saturday, while also contributing a couple of crucial assists and aces.

“Sydney’s determination in the fifth set on Saturday shifted the momentum at a pivotal moment,” said Girls Volleyball Program Head Paula Trejos. “She lifted the team right when we needed it! We came out on top against a tough opponent, in large part, because of Sydney’s ability to perform under pressure!”

Wish Durrett and the Girls Varsity Volleyball team luck as they travel to Bryan, Texas, this weekend for the Aggieland Tournament!
