Spartan Athletes of the Week: Ella Stewart and Jackson James

Spartan Athletes of the Week: Ella Stewart and Jackson James

Congratulations to Jackson James and Ella Stewart for earning Spartan Athlete of the Week honors!

Jackson James ’27 delivered an impressive performance, finishing fifth overall at the National Interscholastic Cycling Association State Championship. After starting the season in the JV4 Division and moving up to JV3, James was unable to transfer his points between divisions,  which affected his starting position. He began the race in 41st place and passed 35 riders on a single-track course to secure a sixth-place finish! Even more impressive, James competed in Varsity Lacrosse games on Friday and Saturday before racing on Sunday.

“I’m so proud of Jackson’s determination in his last race of the season,” said Mountain Biking Head Coach Scot Champ. “He wasn’t fazed by his starting position and focused on the race ahead of him. I can’t wait to see what he accomplishes next year!”

Ella Stewart ’26 has been a steady force on the Girls Varsity Golf team this spring. On Monday, she led her squad to a first-place finish at the Hyde Park Invitational. Stewart tied for first place, individually, after the final round of golf. She played a tiebreaker hole and lost only by one stroke, finishing the day in second place overall.

“Ella’s playing this week epitomized great golf, striving for and achieving her best in difficult situations while simultaneously cheering on her opponents,” said Golf Coach John Branch. “She sets a remarkable example for others to follow in playing the game of golf.”
