Spartan Athletes of the Week: Elise Bowman and Robert Roth

Congratulations to Robert Roth and Elise Bowman for earning Spartan Athlete of the Week honors! 

Dominating from the opening sprint, Spartan Varsity Water Polo cruised to a convincing 22-5 victory behind an unstoppable offensive display from Robert Roth ’29. Roth netted an astounding 11 goals in the game, securing the victory for the Spartans. 

“Robert helped Varsity Water Polo get off to a great start last weekend,” said Head Water Polo Coach Tom Andrew. “ In addition to his work on the offensive end of the pool, Robert has been a great leader both in games and at practice, helping our newer athletes acclimate to a tough training regimen.” 

Cheer on Roth and his teammates as they take on Southwest Preparatory Conference rivals St. Mark’s School of Texas on Saturday, September 5, at the St. Stephen’s Aquatic Center at 12 pm.

Elise Bowman ’27 set an explosive tone early for the Spartans, powering the offense with 10 points in the first set and adding 5 more in the second. Her serve kept the opposition off balance all game, tallying a remarkable seven aces. Bowman also contributed defensively with major blocks at the net during crucial points. 

“Elise has been a steady leader for our team during her high school career,” said Girls Volleyball Program Head Paula Trejos. “It’s unsurprising to me that she’s off to such a dominant start in her senior season. I’m excited to see how she makes her mark this year.”
