Spartan Athletes of the Week: Elise Bowman and Josh Mugo

Spartan Athletes of the Week: Elise Bowman and Josh Mugo

Congratulations to Josh Mugo ‘27 and Elise Bowman ‘27 for earning Spartan Athlete of the Week honors!

Elise Bowman continues to shine for the Varsity Girls Volleyball team. She manages two positions, setter and right side, and stands out in the stat book. On the season, she has 65 aces, 317 kills, 7 solo blocks, 252 assists, and 270 digs. Bowman’s leadership and contributions on the net and in the back row are solid, and her savvy game management elevates the team’s play, collectively.

“Elise is a great role model for her teammates,” said Girls Volleyball Program Head Paula Trejos. “She always brings the team together on the huddle to reassure them that they are playing there as one in challenging moments.”

Josh Mugo has consistently led Boys Varsity Volleyball in virtually every way possible: offensively, defensively at the net and on the floor, from the service line, and off the court, too. Last weekend was no exception! The Spartans knocked off top-of-conference Greenhill and fell a few points shy of beating St. Marks in the 5th set. As per usual, Josh led the team in kills, aces, blocks, and digs during both of these matches — all while providing a perfect balance of passion and composure on the court.

“Josh’s dominance on the court has been fun to see in recent games,” said Boys Volleyball Program Head Alex Hurlburt. “What is most inspiring is how he lifts others up around him, executing his own position and encouraging his teammates to make clutch plays, too.”

Boys Varsity Volleyball hosts two Southwest Preparatory Conference opponents this weekend in Clayton Gym. On Friday, the team will battle St. John’s School (Houston) at 6 p.m. The Spartans will turn around on Saturday morning to face Episcopal High School (Houston) at 11 a.m.
