Spartan Athletes of the Week: Eleanor Evarts and Julia McElveen

Congratulations to Eleanor Evarts ’26 and Julia McElveen ’26 for earning Spartan Athlete of the Week honors!

Last week, Eleanor Evarts helped the Spartan Varsity lacrosse team secure two victories over large public-school opponents with dominant midfield play. On Tuesday in San Antonio, the Spartans earned a 12-8 come-from-behind win over Alamo Heights High School, and Evarts contributed 3 goals, 2 assists, 3 ground balls, and 4 draw controls. On Thursday, the team faced Dripping Springs High School at home. Evarts added 4 goals, 2 ground balls, and 7 draw controls to the stat sheet to help the Spartans earn a 15-8 victory. 

“Whether it was sparking a comeback in San Antonio or simply outworking opponents for ground balls when energy lags, Eleanor consistently comes up with the important plays that lead to wins,” said Girls Varsity Lacrosse Program Head Emily Walling. “Scoring seven goals across two games is impressive, but it’s her relentless, full-field presence that makes her such a vital asset to our program.”

Catch Evarts and her Varsity Lacrosse teammates this week as they take on crosstown rival St. Andrew’s on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s!

Julia McElveen took on the weight of a Spartan team tennis match last week, and she delivered! Playing line three singles against Fort Worth Country Day, McElveen’s match was the last one of the day on the court, and her teammates had split their matches, 2-2. McElveen’s poise under pressure earned her 6-3, 6-1 set victories and clinched the team conference win! 

"What we saw from Julia against last week was a direct reflection of the work she’s been putting in behind the scenes,” said Varsity Tennis Head Coach Bob Haugen. “Her consistency during practice has reached a new level, and that’s exactly what allowed her to stay so composed when the match — and the conference win — came down to her court. She didn't just win her line; she anchored the entire team."

McElveen and her team hit the road for two conference matches next weekend as they battle SPC North Zone opponents Greenhill and Oakridge.
