Spartan Athletes of the Week: Eleanor Evarts and Basil Baldwin
Congratulations to Eleanor Evarts ‘26 and Basil Baldwin ‘26 for earning Spartan Athlete of the Week honors!
As one of three captains on the Varsity Field Hockey team this year, Eleanor Evarts has been an anchor in the center of the pitch, occupying defensive midfield or center back roles. Her poise on the ball, keen distribution skills, and ability to tackle crafty opponents raise the level of play at the Varsity Field Hockey games. Evarts is involved in both attacking and defensive penalty corners, executing set pieces under pressure for the Spartans. In last week’s 2-1 conference match victory over Greenhill, Evarts tallied one of the Spartans' shootout goals after battling through the entirety of regulation and an overtime period. She also found the back of the cage in last Saturday’s 2-0 win over Hockaday.
“Eleanor is such a joy to watch when she’s in her element,” remarked Field Hockey Program Head Chelsea Richards. “She is fluid in her play, she competes for every ball, and she transitions from attack to defense or vice versa with purpose and urgency.”
Next week, Evarts and her teammates will travel to take on Fort Worth Country Day School and Oakridge in two Southwest Preparatory Conference matches on Friday, October 10, and Saturday, October 11.
Quarterback Basil Baldwin has led the Spartan Varsity Football team to a 5-0 start this season and racked up impressive stats in last week’s home game against LASA. Baldwin threw for 388 yards and 5 touchdowns, tallying more than 24 yards per completion in the game. In five games this season, Baldwin has more than 1,500 passing yards and 26 touchdowns.
“Basil has been sharing the limelight all season with his teammates while putting up impressive stats each game this season,” commented Head Football Coach Jay Patterson. “He is an excellent role model for the younger guys and his peers in our program. This past week against LASA was just another example of how Basil’s preparation led to solid execution at game time.”
Baldwin and his teammates on the Varsity Football team will battle Texas Military Institute next Thursday, October 9, at 7 PM at Denius Stadium. Come cheer on the Spartans!
