Spartan Athletes of the Week: Ashna Ross and Tijl Peeters
Congratulations to Varsity Swimmers Tijl Peeters and Ashna Ross for earning Spartan Athlete of the Week honors!
Ashna Ross '28 dominated the St. Stephen’s Aquatic Center in the inaugural Spartan Invitational last weekend, finishing first in every event in which she competed. Perhaps more impressively, Ross also improved on last year’s SPC times in each event! Ross earned first-place finishes individually in the Girls 50 Yard Free, Girls 100 Yard Free, and Girls 100 Yard Breast, and, with the help of her teammates, in the Girls 200 Yard Medley Relay and the Girls 200 Yard Free Relay.
“Ashna swam great all day, and her times were fantastic for the first meet of the season,” said Athletic Director Jon McCain. “I’m excited to see her compete against SPC competition as she works toward a conference championship with her teammates this season.”
Tijl Peeters '26 also had an impressive start to the swim season! In the five events that Peeters swam, he finished first in each one. Individually, Peeters touched the wall first in the Boys 50 Yard Free, Boys 100 Yard Free, and the Boys 100 Yard Back. In addition, Peeters contributed to first-place finishes for the Boys 200 Yard Medley Relay and the Boys 200 Yard Free Relay.
“Tijl’s 50 and 100 Free times not only earned him first place, but were also strong swims early in the season,” added Athletic Director Jon McCain. “As the team prepares for the SPC Championships in February, I expect the hard work that Tijl puts in daily at practice will continue to pay off.”
Peeters and Ross will travel with the Spartan Varsity Swim Team to Dallas next Thursday to compete against SPC foes St. Mark’s and Hockaday before the holiday break.
