St. Stephen’s Girls Lacrosse Wins State Championship

The spring varsity sports season wraps with an exciting state win, postseason runs and season-best performances.

St. Stephen’s Girls Varsity Lacrosse team captured the Texas Girls High School Lacrosse League Division II state title, capping an impressive postseason run as the tournament’s No. 10 seed. The Spartans rallied in this weekend’s semifinal to edge out Flower Mound High School, 12-11. During the championship match against Keller High School, St. Stephen’s trailed for much of the game before lightning delayed play late in the third quarter. When action resumed, Spartans returned energized, scoring four unanswered goals to secure a 12-8 victory and the state title. Congratulations to an incredible team — we look forward to celebrating once more when the championship banner is raised in the gym!

Track & Field

Spartan Track and Field athletes battled long weather delays and hot temperatures at the SPC 4A Championships in Houston while continuing to deliver standout performances and season-best results. Leading the way, Oscar Whiteley-Bermeo ’27 claimed the SPC title in the 3200-meter race, crossing the finish line in 9:40:53.

Boys Lacrosse

After finishing second at the SPC 3A Championships, Boys Varsity Lacrosse made a solid run in the Texas High School Lacrosse League playoffs. On Saturday, May 2, Spartans defeated Guyer High School, 10-9, in overtime advancing to the second round. The following day, the team battled Regents in a tightly contested match before falling, 10-11. 

Boys Tennis

Boys Varsity Tennis made an impressive run at the SPC 4A Championships despite weather-related schedule changes in Houston. The Spartans opened the tournament with a win over Greenhill — a team they had previously lost to during the regular season — before facing top-seeded St. John’s in the semifinals. Despite a valiant effort on the indoor courts, St. Stephen’s fell to the eventual champions. In the third-place match, the Spartans fought hard against Kinkaid before narrowly falling, 2-3. 

Girls Tennis

Girls Tennis concluded its season on Thursday, April 30, at the SPC 4A Championships. After dropping the first round matches to Greenhill in the opening round, weather prevented the left side of the bracket from being to be completed.played out. 

Baseball

Varsity Baseball entered the SPC 4A Championships as the No. 4 seed after finishing the regular season 16-9, including a 4-4 mark in conference play. The Spartans fell to Houston Christian, 1-5, in the opening round before thunderstorms halted play and prevented completion of the left side of the tournament bracket. The program showed clear growth throughout the season and will look to build on that momentum next year.

Boys Golf

Boys Varsity Golf persevered through difficult weather conditions at the SPC Championships to finish sixth overall in a competitive 4A field. Arann Weaver ’27 led the Spartans, shooting a 159 over two days of play to finish just 9 over par and place 17th overall. 

Girls Golf

Girls Varsity Golf wrapped up its season at the Golf Club of Houston during the SPC 4A Championships. Ella Stewart ’26 and Eliza Klotzman ’28 represented the Spartans on the course and capped off a strong season for the program.
