Toughest Race in Texas
Quick turns, narrow paths, steep limestone slopes (and the occasional scurrying armadillo) make The Toughest Race in Texas courses as challenging as they are beautiful.
Each chip timed course (10K, 5K and one mile) is completely contained within St. Stephen's 400-acre property—no congested city streets or exhaust fumes—and offers a classic Hill Country panorama of oak forests and cedar bluffs interspersed with native grass and cactus meadows. It's the perfect setting for an unforgettable run.
The proceeds of the Toughest Race support the St. Stephen's Financial Aid Fund.
This year, we are thrilled to have a new honorary chair person: Mr. Dick Beardsley. Dick Beardsley is a champion - in running and in life. Although his competitive running career ended in 1986, Dick still has the 5th fastest U.S. men's marathon time in history. Best known for his 1982 Boston Marathon "Duel in the Sun" with Alberto Salazar, Dick is also a two-time Olympic Trials Marathon qualifier. He is a two-time winner and course record holder of the Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota and has won the London and Napa Valley marathons. But Dick is more than a running champion. He is a fighter. After a series of near-fatal accidents and a journey of self-discovery, Dick has turned his life around. Dick's story of strength, determination and courage is an inspiration to runners and non runners alike.
